Miami Swim Week 2018: Beauty Inspo from the Runway

July 31, 2018 Lindsey Schickner

The 2018 swim week runways were all about playful colors and patterns, paired with the ultimate beach babe beauty. From sunkissed skin and beachy waves to glossy lips & boho braids, our Miami squad took over backstage at some of this year’s hottest shows. Keyed by our Artistic Directors Giovanni Vaccaro (hair) and Kelli J. Bartlett (makeup), get tips and tricks to recreate these sexy summer hair and makeup looks.

Sport’s Illustrated Swim
Sleek, wet strands paired with a glossy golden eye and bronzed skin.

HAIR: To create this trending wet look, start by separating hair into sections using petroleum jelly for slick, long lasting strands with a soft finish. Finish with Kerastase’s Spray A Porter wave spray to complete the look.

MAKEUP: This classic beachy beauty features a peach lip, glossy golden eye and wet bronzed skin. Start with a spritz of Caudalie Beauty Elixir for the perfect smooth and hydrated canvas. Swap your contour color for a deep matte bronze like Nars’s Contour Blush in Gienah (or Melina for deeper skin tones), and hit the hollow of your cheekbones, the top of your forehead, nose and chin. For eyes, apply Charlotte Tilbury’s Eyes to Mesmerize in Bette from lashline to crease, diffusing past the brow bone. Then, curl the lashes and add several coats of waterproof mascara. For lips, press Nars Lip Cover in Under Arrest (a peachy beige hue) for a light stain, followed by a dab of clear lip gloss. To complete the look, use Temptu Pro Color True Lip Gloss on the tops of cheekbones and eyelids for a wet, glossy, high shine finish.

Montce Swim
Beachy, lived-in waves paired with sunset eyes and a jelly bean lip.

HAIR: For this middle parted, super lived-in wave, use a large barrel curling iron to create a soft hair curtain in front and very loose waves. Alternate directions while curling and focus on the mid-shaft to ends. Apply Kerastase VIP for added volume at the root and dab Ouai Hair Oil on the ends for a silky finish.

MAKEUP: For this look, our artists used the designers own favorite bronzer (L’Oreal True Match Face Powder in C8) to create a soft, ochre wash all over the eye. Then, build on the smokiness of the eye using dark red and orange-based browns, focusing on the outer corner. Follow with several coats of mascara for bold and slightly edgy, chunky lashes. For that jelly bean translucent red lip, pair Charlotte Tilbury’s Lipgloss in Red Vixen with a clear lip gloss. Mixing the higher opacity lipstick with a gloss will create a perfectly dreamy shade for your pout.
