Trending Now! Fall 2018 Hair & Makeup

August 31, 2018 Lindsey Schickner

As we soak in the final days of summer and instantly get nostalgic about those rosé-filled beach days, remember that September has it’s moments. With crisp, autumn air replacing that brutal, can’t-catch-a-breeze humidity,  we can only get excited about swapping our iced coffee for hot and crop tops for cozy knits.

What else does September represent? New York Fashion Week, the September issues, and the launch of fall trends, of course. As we close out the last Summer weekend, our Artistic Directors Giovanni Vaccaro & Kelli Bartlett walk us through their favorite Fall 2018 hair and makeup trends.

Trend #1: DIY messy bun
“This trend is always being reinvented and this falls hair bun sits high on the head, giving you an immediate facelift. I love how you can dress this style up or down, and the less polished, the better… so don’t try too hard!”

Suggested Product: Strong hair elastics and hair pins for sure! Use a pomade to give shine and control to your roots. I recommend Ouai Pomade.

Trend #2: Blunt cut bob
“Confidence and cool factor go hand in hand when opting for this style. I’ve been a hairdresser for 15 years and this is by far my favorite cut to do. Celebs like Jenna Dewan and Lucy Hale have gone shorter and they seem to be having fun styling it different ways. That’s what I love about bobs. The options are endless.”

Suggested Product: Bumble and Bumble Salt spray and a GHD 1in curling iron to add wave

Trend #3: Glass Hair
“Polished, straight, silky and shiny are just a few words to describe this hair trend you are gonna be seeing on every celeb. I am in love with this style because it brings me back to the days where hair health was everything! Let that light bounce and reflect off of every strand!”

Suggested Product: Shu Uemura Oil Absolut and a babyliss pro titanium flat iron

Trend #4: Polished Wave
“Beachy waves are great for summer months, but the Fall calls for smoother finishes. This style is definitely “cool girl” and really easy to achieve on your own. Make sure to have a large barrel curling iron, 1.25in or more.”

Suggested Product: IGK Good Behavior

Trend #5: 90’s-Inspired Accessories
“Who remembers the Claw clip? Well thanks to Alexander Wang, it is becoming a staple this season as well as many other 90’s #hairwear. Your style can be elevated instantly with pins, clips and zig zag bands. “

Suggested Product: Romwe Metal Hair Claw Clip
