Desk to Drinks: DIY Holiday Hair & Makeup Looks

December 2, 2019 Lindsey Schickner

The holiday party circuit is in full force, meaning plenty of festive, post-work holiday hopping with little-to-no time for glam. Whether you’re social cal is stacked with ugly-sweater bar crawls, fancy dinners or cozy cocktails, there’s no excuse not to look your best!

For those time-starved moments when all you have is 15-20 minutes after your last meeting before happy hour, our experts share a few simple hair and makeup tricks and products to look fresh and festive in a flash. All you need is a mirror and a couple of key products.

MAKEUP Tips from our Artistic Director, Kelli J Bartlett

Put A Lip On It: Your holiday look instantly becomes next-level when you add a bold lip! Go timeless with a rich red or opt for a playful, merry berry shade.

Follow these 4 steps to get the perfect bold pout: Prepare, Prime, Paint and Perfect. Prep the lips with Glamsquad’s Tint of Blush Lip Balm to help hydrate and heal chapped or cracked lips. Prime the area around the lip with a small amount of concealer, to help create an even palette and to provide a border around the lip color. Paint on the perfect red lip using a dense flat makeup brush, or apply the color straight from the bullet. My favorite holiday red is MAC RUSSIAN RED. The trick is that it doesn’t need to be perfect! Just get the color on and saturate the lips fully. Perfect the shape using a lip pencil, using the flat edge of the pencil to add volume and shape to the lips.

Add Some Shimmer:The holidays are all about twinkle and sparkle!

After applying several coats of your favorite black mascara, add a little sparkle to your lids by tapping Enlightened Highighter in MOONLIT to the center of the eyelid. The result is a glossy shimmer that adds a twinkle every time you blink.

HAIR Tips from our Artistic Director, Giovanni Vaccaro

Tousle it Up: An effortless updo looks intricate and elaborate, but it’s surprisingly easy to create.

A perfect hairstyle for locks that have gone a couple of days without a shampoo, the end result hides any hint of dirty strands. All you need to is a texture spray and some bobbi pins. Spray sections of hair with Glamsquad’s The Untamed Texturizing Finishing Spray and twist and pull to expand the hair follicle. Once you have created the shape, spray your hair pins with this texture spray to give them grit and keep them from loosening up. Finally, since this spray acts as a long-lasting flexible hairspray, spray your finished up-style and voila, you’ve got the chic holiday updo you’ve always wanted!

Shine Bright: Refresh waves with a hit of oil for a flawless, photo-ready finish

You don’t need to start from scratch to create sleek and smooth strands. Carry a small straightening iron in your purse to de-frizz and refresh tired locks. My go-to is the Babyliss Titanium Mini, which works whether you’re going for stick-straight or a soft curl at the ends. Then, add Glamsquad’s Essentially Multitasking Oil from mid-shaft to ends to give your waves that perfect shiny finish without the weight. I love finishing the look by spraying my flat boar bristle brush with Glamsquad’s Take Hold Flexible Hairspray to give my waves structure, long lasting hold, and lock in the shine. Oh and of course,  incorporate a festive accessory!
